Ammonium Thiosulphate
Product Description
Analysis: 12-0-0-26S
Often abbreviated as ATS, this clear liquid produced by reacting sulfur dioxide, elemental S and aqueous ammonia.
Properties:
- Slightly basic pH
- Highly soluble in water
- Essentially noncorrosive and may be stored in mild steel, poly and aluminum vessels
Advantages:
- Compatible with many other fluid fertilizers; commonly mixed with UAN to produce 28-0-0-5S
- Nitrogen component is readily available for plant uptake
- Thiosulphate breaks down into roughly equal parts sulphate (SO4) and elemental S, which extends the window of available S over more of the growing season
Drawbacks:
- Thiosulphate isn’t generally available for plant uptake until soil microbes convert it to sulphate; this process can be delayed in cool soil temperatures
Application methods:
- side-dress (surface applied) or banded (adjacent to the seedbed)
